In this session, we’ll explore some key themes and narratives emerging in public and private, and draw on both intellectual enquiry and guided mindful compassionate somatic practices. We aim to offer a space to help you to make some kind of sense of collapse, to be with and begin to metabolize the emotions – conscious and unconscious – that can arise, and to consider how we can make meaning from these extraordinary times in our lives, including our coaching work. We hope that this can be an opportunity to respond with care, in kinder and wiser ways to our predicament than if we turn away in disavowal; but none of us can do so alone. So we warmly encourage you to join us.

Indigenous wisdom has practiced the strength of the collective and the honouring of the earth for centuries. In this talk, Colleen will explore how we can weave African philosophies, inner development goals and regenerative leadership principles to recode the machine of corporate business in the 21st century. In a world that is rapidly sliding back into a nationalist, mechanised, colonial mindset, the time has come to go back to the loom and co-create something new and beautiful.

Many of our clients come to us with a deep sense of concern, overwhelm, grief or anxiety about our changing climate. Clearly, this is a serious topic, for us and for them, and we naturally want to do our best to support them through their process – both for their own sense of well-being, as well as for the wider world. It can often be challenging, however, to know how to support them. Is listening enough? Do we share resources, actions, or our own perspective on the issue? While there is no one right way, the default approach is often to match their tone, staying in that sense of seriousness and concern, steeped in a sense of gloom and doom. But what if we took a more playful approach? It might seem counter-intuitive, but integrating a lighter, less serious approach from time to time has numerous benefits for mental health and moving climate and sustainability work forward.

This highly interactive workshop, including small and larger group discussion and exploration, is designed less like a game of Trivial Pursuit and more like a trampoline. We’ll discuss some of the science behind playfulness and offer examples of playfulness in service of coaching and mental health, but really we’ll be using this workshop as a launchpad to explore what a more playful path could look like within the context of coaching. This might include reimagining our own relationship to climate change, and considering how we show up as coach in our conversations in general. Do we hold certain beliefs that keep us from being able to create a sense of lightness, joy or playfulness for Serious Business?

Workshop Goals:

Explore the basics of play theory (for adults!) and playful mindsets

Articulate the rationale for including playful approaches into our coaching conversations

Build community with others interested in a more playful approach to teaching

Reflect on and explore opportunities to add a bit more playfulness into your coaching

Register by Mon, March 31 with this form and the Google Meet details will be sent your way, thanks!

In this session, we have the welcome return of members of what is known as the Joint Global Statement Group – a collaboration of 13 coaching, coaching psychology, mentoring and supervision professional bodies and communities looking at the climate and biodiversity crisis and our profession’s role. The original statement was drafted in 2020 and first published in May of that year https://www.jgsg.one/ during the Coronavirus epidemic.

In the past few months, the members joining us have been working on an evolution of that statement, which is now being considered by all the signatories, along with a new and more user-friendly name! This reflects an appreciation that we have emerged into a new understanding of our landscape, of the need for sustainability, where the interconnectedness of our global challenges is clear and widely accepted. We recognise that the climate crisis cannot be viewed in isolation.

Join us as we explore some of the thinking that has led to this evolved version and what our role as practitioners can be.

The JGSG is a unique collaboration between 13 coaching, mentoring, supervision and coaching psychology professional bodies, including the CCA recently invited to join, who together have memberships of around 300,000 professionals worldwide. The JGSG’s work started in 2019-2020 as the AC, APECS, EMCC and ICF, joined later by APAC, discussed what our profession could do about the climate and ecological emergency, seeing our role as creating a safe space for dialogue, exploration, and learning, not prescribing one right course of action.

Together the 5 bodies wrote the Joint Statement on the crisis. It was published on 29th May 2020, and can be read here: https://www.jgsg.one/joint-global-statement/ or on the CCA website. Since then, 8 further bodies have joined, BPS DoCP, CCA, COMENSA, EASC, GSN, IAC, IOC and ISCP. Inclusion, curiosity, collaboration and compassion are central, with the group continuing to work together, meeting regularly and hosting roundtables.
