Beyond the Polarities – a Thrutopian Perspective for Climate Coaching

Thrutopia is a narrative that speaks to the climate crisis and how to address it.  It cuts through the extremes of happy lala Utopian futures that are self denying and delusional, and Dystopian futures at the other extreme which are focused on doom and gloom that offer no hope or possibility.  It is a new genre of writing and communicating that:

  • recognizes where we are at now individually, collectively and as a planetary civilisation, and the gravity of our situation,
  • shows a pathway, (perhaps many pathways) towards,
  • a possible viable future that we would be proud to leave behind for future generations.

The workshop is an interactive exploration of how this perspective might apply to your coaching.

Presenter(s) Bio

Laurel Freeland: My work around Climate is a fusion of four main threads:

  • Climate expertise gained from delivering climate and sustainability education and projects in Community, Government and University for over 25 years.
  • Whole person facilitation training with Zenergy Global (mostly in Australia) formally since 2016
  • Human Potential - Delivering personal and professional development programs in possibility thinking, belief management – the flow of who we are being, our beliefs, values and worldviews - and how they inform our actions.
  • Deep Ecology and Social Ecology Work that has a deeper dimension that connects us with all of humanity, sentient life and Earth.
The trajectory of my work has led me from delivering organisational change, team building and leadership within the conventional business world to working in more connected, wholistic and systemic ways that change the system within which we work.  Business as usual is an old story that privileges some and disadvantages many.  We need new stories that work for all of us, individually, collectively and for the planet. If you haven’t heard this wake-up call, it is time to listen now.
