CCA Africa Chapter July Meeting

With Women’s Month coming up, we are hosting a meeting entitled Coaching Women in Africa, and are thrilled to have our own CCA Africa member, Dr Pheladi Mohlala, with us to discuss this topic and share insights from her book, entitled “Becoming Dr Makoti”.

The book is an inspiring reflection on love, culture and servant leadership, drawing from over 25 years of marriage, career and personal growth. Dr P (as we affectionately call her) will share lessons on resilience, identity and balancing tradition with ambition, and then we will open up to questions from our members and invite other coaches to share insights on coaching women in Africa.

For those of us wanting a bit more info on the term “makoti”:
“The term makoti is a Southern African Nguni language name, referring to a bride, a newly married woman, a daughter-in-law, which is a term used by the family of a woman’s husband to refer to her. There is a popular belief that this term is derived from Afrikaans language Maak ons Tee (Make us tea) or the English, Maker of Tea. Makoti is a new family member brought along by a son through marriage, with the intention of building future with her.” (https://journals.co.za/doi/pdf/10.7833/122-1-2112)
