Comment by Zarine:

This event will be of interest to people who are interested in the unfolding of breakdowns and collapse in the world. We see this happening in social, economic, environmental, food, health, political and other systems all around us. Jem wrote a paper in 2018 while still in his role as Professor of Sustainability Leadership at University of Cumbria. He realised that climate change was inevitable, and that the collapse of modern industrial consumer societies (“modernity”) was already underway.

The original paper went viral and proved rather controversial, as its title might indicate: Deep Adaptation: A Map for Navigating Climate Tragedy

He then wrote a book called Deep Adaptation, and a new book titled Breaking Together: A Freedom-Loving Response to Collapse

I’ve been following Jem’s work and the Deep Adaptation forum for about 4 years. It has been quite a roller coaster. Informative on many fronts, and also helpful in making decisions about what to do and how to live as we engage in “hospicing modernity”, to borrow the title of Vanessa Andreotti’s transformative book. The DA Facebook community is very active and a good source of info, scholarship and support.

Ralph’s review of Jem’s latest book Breaking Together is here:

The book is generously available as a free download.

This came up as a theme during some of the festival sessions. I believe it offers some pointers to the coach community.
