How the UK can truly lead on global Climate Action – the CEE Bill

You may be aware that the UK, like many countries, is way off target on the action required to stay below a 2C degree global average temperature rise – indeed the UK Committee on Climate Change in its latest report in June set this out clearly and recommended that the Government prepare the country for just for 2C degrees, but for a 4C degree world!

It doesn’t need to be like this – the solutions are known, but what we lack, as has been repeatedly acknowledged, is the political will. This is where this new Bill comes in…

This session will provide an easy introduction to the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill (CEE Bill) which was tabled in Parliament on September 2nd and now has the support of over 70 MPs!

The Bill provides a clear framework based on scientific reality and the UK’s commitments under the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement – in other words it would require that our Government actually do what they committed to when signing the Paris Agreement – that is, do everything in their powers to keep us to 1.5C degree temperature rise.

The Bill also crucially calls for a citizens’ assembly to advise Government on a strategy to meet its commitments. A massive, cross-party economic and social movement will be required if this Bill is to gain traction and demonstrate that change is possible… Leading other countries to follow. Come and learn how can you get involved with this and help make this positive transformative future a reality for ourselves and the next generation.
