Political Pod: Peer Coaching Support – Developing your Theory of Change

192 192 people viewed this event.

This session provides peer-coaching opportunities to help you stretch beyond your current thinking. The focus in January 2025 will be on  developing a Personal Theory of Change which helps us understand our role in the broader social transition we aim to promote.

A theory of change is a comprehensive and structured framework that outlines the underlying assumptions, pathways and strategies for achieving a desired social or environmental outcome. It provides a plan for understanding how and why change happens, identifying the steps needed to bring about that change.

Lydia Stevens will live coach Fiona Anderson, who explains she has struggled to develop her own theory of change, for starters, because she ‘s allergic to the word “theory”.  She hadn’t seen a simple explanation of what a theory of change is and what it does until she found one in the Playbook.

In preparation, please read the Shaping Tomorrow Playbook page 18-21, and think about what your theory of change is or might be, so you can offer peer support and receive it yourself.

If you would like to take up the opportunity to be coached yourself, write a few sentences about your challenges with a personal theory of change and send it by 6 Jan to Lydia Stevens: lydia@climatebiodiversitycoaching.com and  Fiona Anderson fiona.anderson.01@gmail.com.

Come along and be part of these dynamic coaching opportunities to stay one step ahead. We are all there to share and challenge with empathy. This session is not being recorded for confidentiality. Our joint lessons from this process and any key take aways can be shared in our next newsletter as well as the coaching questions asked and resources shared.

Peer-coaches will be those who attend the meeting. The Political Pod is attended by experienced and empathetic coaches all of whom care deeply about the state of our planet and are aware of the power dynamics at play locally and globally.

Lydia Stevens is an executive coach, facilitator, trainer, mother and grand-mother. After 20 years of working as a consultant in sustainable development, Lydia re-trained as an executive coach at Henley Business School to work with businesses, communities and individuals to serve people and the planet. Lydia uses her coaching skills to find the spark that we all have within us that motivates us to contribute both small and big steps to a sustainable world. Lydia is an active member of Climate Coaching Alliance. Her coaching includes climate and biodiversity work, systemic thinking, and bringing what lies beneath the surface into focus. Lydia co-hosted Connect with Something Bigger for a group of CEOs and leaders to support collective learning during COVID-19. Her breadth of experience covers transition as a leader, especially for founders of businesses and those fitting into their shoes once founders leave. Lydia is passionate about supporting younger people and global networks.

Fiona Anderson is a climate coach and author of the Climate Coaching Alliance Political Pod monthly newsletter. She mostly works with local politicians in Devon and Dorset. She worked as a journalist for over 30 years, including TV news production at BBC Newsnight and the BBC's Asia and Washington bureaux. She trained as a coach with the BBC's respected in-house coach programme. Her favourite work since leaving the BBC has been with conservationists around the Mediterranean with Common Purpose, coaching in French and English.  She's also a trustee of Action East Devon, a charity supporting young people struggling with their mental health, and feels it is deeply unjust that they should have to shoulder anxiety about the climate crisis  along with all their other worries.
