Tips & Tricks for Talking with Politicians

95 95 people viewed this event.

Our elected politicians are going to have an enormous influence over whether or not the human race responds quickly, cleverly and fairly enough to climate change. As coaches we know it can be challenging for a person to take on new ideas – especially when that person is swamped with new ideas every day.

So how best can we influence MPs? How best can we ensure climate action is embraced – or at least considered?  This session offers many practical tips and tricks that make a real difference when engaging with politicians. Together we will explore best ways to make initial contact, how to avoid being ignored and how to work the room like a professional lobbyist when you have a face-face meeting.

Craig Wilkins is a community changemaker from Adelaide, South Australia with 30 years’ experience influencing minds and behaviour.  He is a passionate believer in collective altruism - the act of people generously working together on behalf of others and the planet we call home. Craig knows politics from inside and out. For six years he stalked the corridors of Parliament House as an adviser to SA's first Greens MP. Then, seven years ago, he became the Chief Executive of South Australia's peak non-government environment body.  Currently, Craig straddles the insider/outsider divide as a Government-appointed member of the Premier’s Climate Change Council, while also leading and assisting community campaigns and movements for change.
