In Honour of, and Deep Gratitude for Joanna Macy (1929–2025)

This Autumn (Northern Hemisphere) or Spring (Southern Hemisphere) we will come together for ten consecutive Monday sessions to experience “We Are The Great Turning”, the profound podcast series featuring conversations between Joanna Macy and Jess Serrante, produced by Sounds True.
Each week, we will explore one of the ten episodes, touching on themes such as gratitude, the stories of our time, the courage to feel into our grief, and the call to action in these pivotal times.
Please listen to the appropriate podcast ahead of our session for optimum impact.
The live sessions will include:
Space for reflecting and resonating on the week’s episode (please listen in advance where possible)
Practices inspired by Joanna’s The Work That Reconnects
Reflection questions
Large- and Small-Group conversation, connection and shared presence
Poems and music

This is not a teaching series, but a space of honouring, witnessing and community building.

It is also a way to “re-member” Joanna Macy’s legacy – and strengthen our capacity to meet these troubling times with broken-open hearts.

When: Mondays, 1 September – 3 November 2025, 18:30–20:00 CEST (17:30–19:00 UK, 12:30–14:00 Eastern US)
Where: Zoom (link provided upon registration)

Recording: Sessions will NOT be recorded, to enable as safe a space as possible.

We will use Joanna Macy and Jess Serrante’s conversation podcast series “We Are The Great Turning”, which invite us into some of the skills we need to be with the pain of it all, and from there begin to find ways to take personal action, stay in community, and remain connected with life and our humanity.

Notes & Reminders I have booked 90 min so that we have sufficient time.
The expectation is that you will listen to each podcast ahead of our Monday gatherings so that we maximise our time together, and deepen our insights with additional practices from Joanna’s rich body of work.

I hosted these sessions last year and found them rich, moving and deeply connective.
This year feels especially poignant as we gather so soon after Joanna’s death.
I hope you can join!

Presenter(s) Bio

My work is coalescing around the importance of making space in our lives - both at home and at work - for endings, loss and grief... and that when we do this intentionally, and preferably in community, in time, new energy can emerge.

No - this is not just pushing the "happy ever after" narrative on you, but instead inviting us all to turn more to what is hard, what is devastating, what is no longer, whether in our lives, in our world, and be with the pain of that. Sit in it for a while.

It is so counter-cultural to do this - to turn towards, rather than to turn away, deny, distract, ignore, or numb - or whatever our game may be.

My genuine sense is that when we don't stay with what hurts, when we insist on "turning away and moving on", we fail to take in learnings and lessons. We forget what it is what we long for and what binds us, and we miss opportunities for the necessary transformation that these times require of us.

As such we miss out the very real inner work that will support the outer, technical solutions that are popping up everywhere.
