Transform Eco-Anxiety Pod: Teacher and Parent Training for the Challenges of Eco-Anxious Youth

In 2021 The Lancet published a study which involved 10,000 youth from ten developed countries. They found that “75% of them think that the future is frightening,” and “56% of them believe that humanity is doomed.” A set of tools from existential ecology can be applied to help our youth have satisfying lives in the mid-21st century. Currently they live at home and are in school. Parents or teachers can learn this new way of looking at our changing world and then teach our youth a different way of facing the challenges of their daily experience.

Pierre-Eric Sutter’s book, N’ayez pas peur du collapse (Don’t Be Afraid of Collapse, 2020), offers a step-by-step method to change our way of thinking/feeling/acting amidst collapsing systems (climate, diversity, democracy, politics, supply chains, etc.). This training will focus on techniques for enabling secondary school students (aged 14-18) to cope with the data catastrophes that they now face. The Transform Eco-Anxiety Training Manual (written at the 10th-grade reading level) will be used as a text for “Climate Class.”

Along with their apprehensive view of the future, our youth carry a great potential to make change (as demonstrated by Greta Thunberg, Clover Hogan, and many others). Join us for an exploratory discussion.
