As a group, we have shared research and practical ideas about using a coaching approach with young people and developed a toolkit for educators. Join our May meeting for Robert Bell’ s session on  Beyond Climate Silence: Transforming Eco-Anxiety.

How can people (especially youth with the future before them) be happy and enjoy their mid-21st-century lives?

“Eco-anxiety” is a mental distress and is not classified as a “diagnosis” but can have severe effects on youth well-being, especially if they witness or learn about extreme climatic events. There is a way to support young people in stepping out of negativity and seeing  a positive way to enjoy life experiences. It has to do with supporting youth in reflecting on the lifestyle they choose and the way they think, feel, and act each day.

Based on the work of Pierre-Eric Sutter this session will give a taster of some simple ideas about supporting youth in reflecting on their internal locus of control and how they relate to those around them. It will offer some tools you could use with young people to help them shift their thinking to accept and positively deal with the coming environmental changes and challenges. These ideas are very practical and have more to do with “expectation” than with “hope”.

Our meetings are also a great opportunity to connect with others interested in using a coaching approach with young people. All are warmly invited whatever your background. So far our pod has a fabulous mix of parents, teachers, activists, leaders, coaches, volunteers and more.
