Coaching In and With Nature

If you are experienced or simply curious about nature coaching, and its relationship with climate consciousness, we’d love you to join us, share your ideas and learn from each other’s approaches to harnessing the magical powers of nature in coaching.

We examine our curiosities and hopes; explore themes of interest such as awareness, wellbeing, systems and nature principles, nature coaching and perspectives for climate coaching; share resources and discuss how to communicate and co-create with nature in addressing the climate crisis.

The Pod is also home to the CCA-IDG Community of Practice – a dynamic and engaging space dedicated to the essential inner development work that drives transformative change for a thriving planet. Rooted in the framework of the Inner Development Goals (IDGs), this community is reigniting our deep, innate connection with nature as a foundation for action.
By nurturing the mindsets, capacities, and qualities we need—individually and collectively—this work empowers coaches, leaders, and communities to step into bold responsibility and co-create a regenerative, life-affirming future for all.

How to give Nature a Voice

Background

In September 2022, Lawyers for Nature CIC worked with the eco and ethical beauty products Faith in Nature to appoint Nature to their board of directors. This strategic legal move aims to elevate the rights of nature discussion to the corporate level and give a voice and vote to Nature within the powerful corporate environment.

Research drew on indigenous experiences from places such as New Zealand and used the permissive nature of corporate law in England and Wales to appoint a ‘guardian’ to the board whose role was to give a voice and a vote to Nature.

Rights of Nature (RoN) is the recognition that Nature (that being ecosystems- things like trees, animal, mountains and forests) has legal rights. RoN acknowledges that all of Nature, both sentient and non-sentient, have the right to persist, maintain and regenerate through their vital cycle. It recognises that all life forms, humans included, are connected and entangled. The decisions and values that we uphold should be based on what is good for the whole of the planet, not just humans.

Non-person representation is recognising that nature has legal personhood and then allowing that legal person to be represented through the voice of a guardian. The organisation can also amend their purpose to endorse a legal duty to protect Nature.

This action of appointing Nature to the board to give non-human representation for the natural world is a commitment by the corporation to protect and respect Nature when carrying out their operations. This action is about taking responsibility to Nature seriously and showing that business has the potential to be a force for good. It means that we can truly ask the question “what would Nature say? What would Nature decide?” when making key decisions.

By ensuring non-human representation on the board, corporations are much better placed to make informed and responsible decisions about doing business in a world that is constantly seeing the effects of climate breakdown daily

What does this mean in practice?

  • Appointing a guardian at meetings to represent Nature and give Nature a voice
  • Ensuring that key value statements and purposes reflect the duty to protect nature
  • Exploring concepts such as Rights of Nature, nature positivity, planetary boundaries, Earth law and ecocentrism when making decisions or aligning to future directions
