Meeting a local Ottawa Youth environmental leader
 
Join the Climate Reality Leaders Ontario Canada Regional Community for our first Community Climate call of 2024 to meet Julia Sterling – the Climate Virus Workshop Facilitator –  who will share her story of life experiences as one of two Canadian participants with the Climate Wayfaring Program @TheAllWeCanSaveProject.

She will also provide an overview of her Masters thesis research – the Climate Virus – which compared the federal government’s response to COVID-19 v.s. Climate Action. It integrated at least 11 interviews with civil society leaders. She will run a small taster imaginative futures exercise that has resulted from her research that attendees will be involved in.

She will also talk about her involvement with the Carleton Climate Commons Working Group Carleton Climate Commons Working Group – Carleton University.

Presenter Bio

Julia Sterling is a socio-environmental communicator and researcher located in the ancient unceded and unsurrendered terriroty of the Anishinnaabe and Algonquin peoples, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. 


Julia holds an undergraduate degree in Global & International studies with a focus on globalization and the environment. She recently graduated with an MA in Political Economy at Carleton University where she collaborated with 11 members across Canadian civil society organizations to uncover cross-crisis lessons from Canada's COVID-19 vs climate response to reimagine more urgent climate action. Since graduating, she has been committed to knowledge mobilization transforming her thesis 'The Climate Virus' into 6 formats: a 160-page document, a 10-page executive summary, a short film, a 3-minute thesis pitch, a conference presentation and customized professional workshops.

Currently Julia is inspired by the need to cultivate a radical imagination for a new world that adequately addresses the complex socio-environmental challenges of today from a point of reconnection, regeneration, equity and justice.
